Lyon County Splits Games at McCracken Invitational

Lyon County split two games Saturday at the McCracken County Invitational in Paducah. The Lyons beat Calloway County 9-0 and fell to the host Mustangs 11-1.

In the win over the Lakers, Austin Long and Eli Baker teamed up on the four-hit shutout.  Long pitched the first six innings, striking out seven and allowing just two hits.  Baker pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Aidan Rush had three of Lyon County’s 10 hits and drove in three runs. Travis Yancy had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Jackson Shoulders came through with two hits.

Lyon County scored in every inning except the third and seventh and played errorless defense.

After not playing one another for two decades, Lyon County has won three of five meetings with Calloway since resuming the series.

In the nightcap, McCracken County scored 11 times on 14 singles, two walks, and two hit batters to score an 11-1 win.

McCracken County, ranked No. 5 in the state, scored eight times in the third inning and added three more runs in the fourth.

Ben Higdon and Braden Vinyard each had three hits for the Mustangs, who improved to 18-4.

Lyon County scored first in the game when Christian O’Daniel earned a bases loaded walk.  The Lyons were limited to four singles in the game.

Lyon County is 14-4 and received votes in this week’s Prep Baseball Report Top 25, which is considered the official baseball poll for the state.

The Lyons host Union County Monday.
