At one point, Tripp Branch gave up football to concentrate on basketball and, perhaps, earn a college offer on the hardwood.

But things change, and now Branch is headed to Centre College in Danville this fall where he will be a wide receiver for the Colonels.

Branch chose Centre over 16 or 17 other football offers.

The Caldwell County senior still has some unfinished business in the basketball gym, though.

After a career-high 47 points — just two off the Caldwell single-game record — in a win at Dawson Springs Tuesday night, Feb. 23, Branch is just 41 points away from becoming the 19th member of the Caldwell County Tigers’ 1,000-points club.

It’s been an up-and-down year for both football and basketball at Caldwell thanks to COVID-19 schedule changes, but Branch has been on a roll of late.

His last three games, prior to a home Senior Night date against Hopkinsville on Thursday, Feb. 25, have produced 25, 27, and 47-point efforts.

Branch said a 7th District basketball championship and a deep run in the postseason is still the goal for Caldwell County.

And the 6-3 shooting guard still has time to work his way even further up the Tigers’ career scoring list.
