For the first part of the game Tuesday night, things looked pretty good for the Hopkinsville Tigers. Preston Chaudoin was on the mound and the Tigers were leading the 4th Region contending Bowling Green Purples 2-0. Then things went south in a hurry for the Tigers.

Hopkinsville was charged with five errors over the final four innings of the game as the Purples rallied to take a 6-3 win, their 21st win in their last 22 games. The Tigers had two errors in the fourth, and one each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Four of those miscues were connected in some fashion to the Purples scoring a run.

Hopkinsville took the early lead in the game in part due to a Bowling Green error in the first inning to make it 1-0. Another Purples’ error assisted the Tigers in scoring their second run of the game in the third inning to make it 2-0.

In the top of the fourth, the Tigers had back-to-back errors which allowed Bowling Green to cut the lead to 2-1. In the fifth, the first three batters for the Purples reached on two singles and an error. Bowling Green would use another single and a fielder’s choice to take the lead at 3-2.

The Tigers fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Zach Moss led off the inning with a double. Tim Cansler would then drive in pinch-runner Charles Rutland with a single to right to make it 3-3.

The Purples then loaded the bases in the top of the seventh on two walks, a sacrifice and a single. Another Tiger error would allow two runs to score to make it 5-3. The Purples would add one more run on a passed ball to extend the lead to 6-3.

Hopkinsville would make things interesting however in the bottom half of the final inning. After a walk to lead off the inning, the Tigers would use a hit batter and a single to load the bases with two outs. The Purples were able to get out of the jam when Eli Burwash struck out Logan Durst to end the game.

For the Tigers, Zach Moss was 2-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Landon Snyder finished 2-3 with two runs scored.

On the mound, Preston Chaudoin went 6 1/3-innings, giving up six runs, however, only two of them were earned. He allowed seven hits, striking out eight while walking three.

The loss, which was Hoptown’s third straight, drops the Tigers to 14-8 on the season. They are set to return to action Wednesday night at home as they host Fort Campbell.
