Kentucky could solidify its point guard play for next season Monday afternoon when Georgia transfer Sahvir Wheeler makes his college choice. He will announce at 3 p.m. EST on the Field of 68 podcast network.

Kentucky has been trending nationally for the 5-10, 180-pound Wheeler but LSU and Oklahoma are also in his final three options. Wheeler averaged 14 points, 7.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game last year as a sophomore when he started 25 games.

He led all Power 5 players in assists per game and had 332 assists in two seasons at Georgia. However, he also averaged 4.4 turnovers per game and shot just 22.5 percent from 3-point range and 38 percent overall from the field. Still, he had three 20-point games and had the first triple-double in Georgia history with 14 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds against LSU.

Wheeler had 10 points but missed 11 of 15 shots in a win over Kentucky last season. He also had seven assists and two rebounds along with two turnovers in 35 minutes.

Wheeler would give UK experience to go with TyTy Washington who signed with UK last week. Wheeler is not as big as Washington but his experience could make him the perfect mentor for Washington.

Adding Wheeler would also increase the intensity of practice with Wheeler and Washington pushing each other.

If Davion Mintz would also opt to return to UK for another season, he would give Kentucky another shooter as well as another option at point guard to perhaps give John Calipari the deepest backcourt he’s had in his time at Kentucky.
