The Lyon County Lady Lyons took a big early lead at Union County Monday night, saw that lead completely evaporate almost as quickly as it came, and then scratched and clawed for all they were worth to get a 12-11 win Monday night. The victory was a nice rebound after the Lady Lyons dropped a tough one-run game over the weekend to Christian County.

The Lady Lyons opened like they were going to run off and leave the Bravettes in their dust. Lyon County scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to claim the big early lead. The big shot in the inning was a two-run homer off the bat of Calista Collins.

While the Bravettes may have been knocked down by the opening salvo, they most certainly were not out. Union County came right back with a seven-run inning of their own in the bottom of the second to even things up at 7-7. All of the runs were scored with two outs on the board.

Calista Collins’ second homer of the game put Lyon back ahead at 8-7 in the third inning. Katelyn Dykes sent one out of the park in the 4th inning, and Calista Collins added an RBI single, and Lyon County pushed the lead out to 11-7.

Union County got one of the runs back in the bottom of the 4th on a sacrifice to make it 11-8. An RBI double in the bottom of the 5th would trim the lead further to 11-9.

Calista Collins drove in another run in the top of the sixth with a sac fly to make it 12-9.

The Bravettes had a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one at 12-11.

Union County would have two runners reach base in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Kaelyn Conger was able to get a groundout to end the game as the Lady Lyons held on for the win.

After being held without a hit against Christian County, Calista Collins erupted against Union County, going 4-4, with two home runs, six RBIs, and two runs scored. Kately Dykes finished 2-3, with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Tori Schenk was 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Both teams hit the cover off the ball. Lyon County scored their 12 runs on fifteen hits, while Union County scored 11 runs on 12 hits.

With the win, the Lady Lyons move to 20-9 on the season.
