Hopkins County Central has a new boys’ soccer head coach.

The school announced on Thursday that assistant coach Grayson Hagerman has been elevated to the top position in the Storm soccer program.

Hagerman replaces Ben Lutz, who left the boys’ coaching job at Hopkins Central to take over the girls’ soccer program at the school.

“Coach Hagerman has done an outstanding job as an assistant coach in our soccer program during the most successful era in the program’s history,” said Hopkins Central athletic director Kent Akin. “He is very well respected by the players and has a great relationship with the returning and incoming players, and we know that he will be able to take the program to the next level.”

Hagerman played on the 2007 state champions while at Springfield Catholic Central in Springfield, Ohio.

He joined the Hopkins Central boys’ soccer staff as an assist, where he served as varsity assistant, JV assistant and was the first coach of the JV development team to help incorporate middle school players in 2019.

During Hagerman’s three years at Hopkins Central, the Storm has been to the regional tournament two times and posted the school’s first regional victory this past season, beating Trigg County 3-2 in the opening round.

Lutz spent seven seasons as the boys’ soccer head coach at Hopkins County Central, going 41-80-9 during that time.

The Storm finished the 2020 season with a 6-8-1 mark.

Lutz moves over to a Lady Storm program that went 52-40-2 the last five seasons under Shawn Oakley.
