An inability to close out innings and drive in runs doomed Hopkinsville in a 10-7 loss to visiting Logan County on Friday night.  The Cougars scored all 10 of their runs with 2 out to win their fourth straight, while the Tigers banged out 14 hits but left 10 runners on base to drop their second in a row and slip to 11-3 overall.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st, the Tigers tied the game on an RBI single by Logan Durst after Ryan Myers singled and Preston Chaudoin doubled to start the inning.  However, back-to-back 2-out doubles pushed 3 runs across for the Cougars in the bottom of the frame and they led 5-2.

After Hopkinsville trimmed the margin to 1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd, the Cougars were at it again with 2 outs in the 3rd.  Tiger starting pitcher Jacob Dilday got the first 2 outs of the inning but gave way to Zach Moss after 2 walks and a double brought in 2 more runs.  Logan County scored again on a Tiger error and doubled up Hoptown 8-4.

Moss retired the first two batters in the 4th but found himself in more 2-out trouble.  Back-to-back singles brought in a run and another came in on a wild pitch for a 10-4 score.

After Durst drove in his 4th run of the night in the 4th, the Tigers were in business with two on and no out in the 5th.  Moss grounded out to bring in a run and Landon Snyder followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 3.  Tim Cansler singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd and Dilday followed with a single that Logan County shortstop Blake Wood was able to knock down.  Snyder rounded 3rd and was caught in a rundown, ending the Tigers’ last threat of the night.

Dilday took the loss for the Tigers, allowing 8 runs, 5 earned, on 6 hits with 5 walks and a pair of strikeouts.  Moss pitched 3.1 innings, yielding 2 earned runs on 2 hits with a pair of walks and 4 strikeouts.  Durst came on in the top of the 7th to get the last three outs.

Durst had 3 hits to go with 4 RBI, followed by Myers, Chaudoin, Snyder, and Dilday with 2 hits each.

Wood earned the win on the mound for Logan, lasting 6 innings and allowing 7 runs, 4 earned, on 14 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Keaton Slaughter pitched the 7th, striking out two.

Zach Yates was 2-5 at the plate for the Cougars and drove in 3 runs.  Kruise Newman had 2 hits and scored 3 times.
