The Hopkinsville Tigers used a quick start Saturday at South Warren to turn back the Spartans and end a two-game losing streak. The Tigers plated four runs in the top of the first and then held on for a 5-3 win in Bowling Green.

Hoptown got back-to-back-to-back singles to open the game from Ryan Myers, Preston Chaudoin, and Logan Durst to score two quick runs. Then, with two outs, Tim Cansler took one over the left-field fence to extend the lead to 4-0.

The game would stay that way until the bottom of the 4th when Kobe Martin drove in two runs for the Spartans with a double to cut the lead to 4-2.

Hoptown would add an important insurance run in the top of the 6th. After a hit batter, walk, and a single, Logan Durst would get hit with another pitch to drive in Kaden West to push the lead out to 5-2.

Thanks to a Hopkinsville error and a walk, the Spartans would threaten with runners at first and second and one out in the bottom of the 7th. Preston Chaudoin would come up with a strikeout for the second out. South Warren then scored a run on a single from Trevor McNaughton to trim the lead to 5-3.

But that would be the end of the rally as Chaudoin got Tanner Graves to line out to short to end the game.

Hoptown’s Logan Durst finished the game 2-2 with a pair of RBIs. Tim Cansler was 1-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Preston Chaudoin finished the game 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Tigers ended up scoring their five runs on seven total hits.

Chaudoin went the distance on the mound for the Tigers, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on three hits, striking out eight, while walking five.

Hopkinsville improves to 12-4 with the win. The Tigers are set to return to action Monday evening when they host Henderson County at 6:00 pm.
