The Todd County Central Rebels won one and lost one Saturday in baseball action in Elkton. The Rebels fell in the opener 15-0 to Montgomery Central. The Rebels then rebounded to pick up a solid 11-7 win over Murray.
The first game of the day saw Montgomery Central pitcher Hayden Boyd throw a three-inning no-hitter as Montgomery Central rolled to the big win.
Central scored eight runs in the first, five in the second, and two more in the third to pick up the win. The Rebels were helpful to Montgomery Central’s cause, being charged with four errors over three innings.
Todd County Central had three runners reach base, all by walk.
After being blanked in the opening game of their day, the Rebels then rebounded to knock off Murray 11-7. After taking an early lead in the game, the Rebels came from a run down and scored seven straight runs over the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
Todd Central got rolling early in the game. RBI singles from Jacob Brandon and Jameson Hunt staked the Rebels to a 3-0 lead after one inning.
After Murray cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third, the Rebels got the run right back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Tiger error.
The Tigers took the lead for the first time in the top of the fifth inning. Murray strung together four straight hits to plate four runs and go up 5-4. That lead would be short-lived for the Tigers.
Thanks to an error and two walks, Todd Central scored three in the bottom of the 5th to grab the lead back at 7-5. The Rebels then used four hits, a Murray error, and a dropped third strike to score four more runs in the bottom of the 6th to push the lead out to 11-5.
Murray got a two-out single to score a couple of runs in the seventh to trim the lead to 11-7. But then Todd Central pitcher Jacob Brandon came up with a strikeout to end the game.
Brandon had a big game at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Preston Rager finished 2-3 with two runs scored.
Rager got the start on the mound, going 4 1/3-innings, giving up four runs, only two of them earned, striking out four, and walking one.
With the split on the day, the Rebels now stand at 13-5 on the year. They are set to return to action Tuesday at home in a 13th District matchup with Logan County.
