The University Heights Academy Blazers made the trek to Union County Friday night and things did not quite go as they would hope. The Braves scored in each of the first four innings and then held on to knock off the Blazers 4-2. The win was the 200th for Union County coach Chad Robison.

Union County scored a single run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead. Isaac Phillips drove in a run with a sac fly in the first. The Braves used a UHA error to extend the lead to 2-0 in the second. Ben Hargrove singled, stole second, and then scored on a ground out in the third. A passed ball would enable another run to score in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Union County starting pitcher Race Oleary was cooking right along. Oleary set down the first 11 Blazer batters he faced. UHA finally got a baserunner in the top of the 4th when Ty Hunt reached base on a single.

Oleary would finish his five innings of work giving up no runs on two hits, striking out four, while walking none.

UHA got into the scoring column in the top of the sixth inning. Jaiden Miles led off the inning with a single, followed by a double from Seth Hancock to give the Blazers runners at second and third with no one out. After a pair of strikeouts and a hit batter, Ben Stone came up with a clutch two-out single to score Miles and Hancock to cut the lead to 4-2.

UHA would get a one-out walk in the top of the 7th, but Union County turned a double play to end the game.

Ben Stone finished the game 2-3 with two RBIs. Seth Hancock, Ty Hunt, and Jaiden Miles finished with one hit each, as UHA scored their two runs on five hits.

Eston Glover got the start on the mound for UHA, going 3 2/3-innings, giving up four runs, three of them earned, striking out two, and walking three.

The loss, which was the Blazers’ sixth straight, drops them to 5-11 for the year.
