Tanner Farmer doubled three times and drove in four runs, while Will Kearns struck out eight and allowed one run in a complete-game victory for the Todd County Central baseball team Thursday, as the Rebels continued their hot start by downing host Edmonson County 9-1.

Farmer, who now owns the team lead in doubles (7) this season, finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs and six of Todd Central’s 14 total bases. Austin Shadrick put the Rebels ahead with two outs in the second inning, when his ground ball to third base was misplayed for a Wildcat error, allowing Farmer to score from second.

In the third inning, the first five TCCHS batters reached to start the frame, eventually leading to an RBI single by Ethan Bicksler and a two-run double by Farmer to put Edmonson in a 5-0 hole. Nate Reding later dropped a fly-ball RBI single to center field to finish off the third-inning onslaught.

Jase Hampton, hitting ninth for Todd County Central, also had three hits in the win. Bicksler was 1-for-3 with three runs in a walk. Grady Reding (1-for-4, two runs) and Nate Reding (2-for-4, RBI) also had solid performances

The Wildcats’ only run came on a double by Chaz Wilson and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Rose in the bottom of the third. That’s all Edmonson County (4-9) could muster against an overpowering Kearns (3-0), who scattered seven hits, walked just one, and threw 107 pitches in the dominant victory to stay unbeaten on the mound in 2021.

Wilson and Gavin Minyard had two hits each to lead ECHS at the plate. Wilson tried to start a rally in the fifth inning with a leadoff double, followed by a sharp single to left by Rose, but Cole Saling’s 6-4-3 double play ended the threat and kept the Rebels up seven runs.

Todd County Central (9-4) will attempt to win its 10th game of the season at noon on April 24 at Murray High School. The Rebels haven’t won 10 or more games in a season since 2010.
