Franklin Simpson High School senior Cole Wix came into a road game at Todd County Central tied for the sixth-best batting average on his baseball team. By the time he left Elkton on Tuesday, he had quickly climbed up those rankings.

Wix, who scored four times, was perfect at the plate and delivered five of the Wildcats’ 20 hits in a 13-1 Franklin-Simpson victory. Hitting out of the No. 2 position, Wix had five singles in five at-bats and drove in a run, and helped the ‘Cats score at least one run in the first five innings, en route to a runaway win.

Dawson Owens started the game with a lead-off home run, abruptly giving Franklin-Simpson a 1-0 lead. It led to five straight hits to start the game for the Wildcats, who went up 2-0 on Justin Jones’ RBI single in the first and 5-0 on Skyler Martinez’s RBi double in the third.

Wix (2-1) was nearly as perfect on the mound, where he struck out eight Todd Central batters, walked just one, and allowed three hits in the complete-game triumph. Of us 77 pitches, Wix delivered strikes on 55 of them, and faced just 26 batters in seven innings.

The Rebels got their lone run on a dropped third strike with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. By that point, however, FSHS already owned a 5-1 advantage. The visitors went on to score eight more runs to grab their fourth straight win overall in 2021.

Todd Central’s Jacob Brandon (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing 12 hits and eight runs (six earned) in three innings. Tanner Farmer struck out four Wildcats in just two innings of relief. Ethan Bicksler closed out the contest on the mound, allowing five hits and three runs in a pair of innings of work

The Rebels (8-4), who play three games in three days, are back on the diamond on April 21, hosting Kenwood (TN) in a 5:30 p.m. ballgame in Elkton.
