Henderson County used a strong third quarter to put Caldwell County away in their 2nd Region tournament opening-round matchup on Monday.

The Tigers saw their season come to an end with a 71-56 setback.

Henderson (13-11) never trailed in the contest while advancing to Wednesday’s regional semifinal game against University Heights Academy. That contest will be played in Madisonville. UHA advanced by holding off Crittenden County 80-79 on Monday.

Down 37-25 at halftime, Caldwell tried to make a game of things in the second half.

The Tigers got to within 42-33 and had the ball with a chance to get closer.

However, Caldwell couldn’t make a run. Instead, Henderson scored 11 of the next 13 points and finished the period with a 19-3 blitz.

That made it 61-36 entering the final frame and had the Colonels well on their way to the semifinal round.

Noah Curry’s 21 points led Henderson. Gerard Thomas had 16 points and Koby Reed added 15.

Collin Whittington topped Caldwell with 16 points while Tripp Branch added 15.

The Tigers end the season 8-16.
