Caldwell County Wrestlers Go 5-0 at Warren County Tournament

Caldwell County wrestlers went 5-0 to win the Warren County Wrestling Tournament Saturday at South Warren Middle School.

Tiger matmen defeated Owensboro Apollo, Trigg County, Hopkinsville, Owensboro Catholic and Warren County in dual matches.

Caldwell topped Apollo 56-24 in the dual-match format.

The Tigers won six matches by pin — Logan Brown in 44 seconds at 106 pounds, Collin Teutsch in 38 seconds at 113, Timothy Nichols in 2:39 at 120, Jackson Riley in 1:58 at 145, Dylan Walls in 3:16 at 170;and Cole Sherill at 1:54 at 220.

Two Tigers claimed decisions. Cofy Walls won 12-10 at 126 and Riley Johnson took a 22-6 decision at 132.

The Tiger matmen turned back Trigg County 54-15.

Johnson needed just 20 seconds to win his 132 match by pin while Nichols pinned his Trigg opponent in 45 seconds at 120. Brown recorded a pinfall in 1:35 at 106.

Caldwell won seven matches by forfeit.

The Tigers won by a team score of 50-15 against Hopkinsville.

Caldwell took six matches by pin —Johnson in 18 seconds at 132, Colin Walls in 21 seconds at 195, Dylan Walls in 30 seconds at 170, Cofy Walls in 57 seconds at 126, Riley in 2:21 at 145 and Teutsch in 3:39 at 113.

Sherill took the 220-pound match with a 12-3 decision while Nichols won 11-2 at 120.

Caldwell rolled past Owensboro Catholic 65-5.

Tiger wrestlers took six of those matches by pin — and four of those in the first period. Dylan Walls won at 170 in just 10 seconds while Colin Walls pinned his opponent at 182 in 19 seconds. Ethan Newsom recorded a pin in 29 seconds at 145 and Sherill needed just 39 seconds to win his match at 220.

Riley won by pin in 1:49 at 138 and Brown pinned his opponent in 2:15 at 106.
Nichols took a 16-1 decision at 120.

Owensboro Catholic’s six points were the result of a forfeit.

Caldwell knocked off Warren County 66-6.

Claiming pinfalls in that match for the Tigers were Riley in 20 seconds at 138, Cofy Walls in 31 seconds at 126, Johnson in 42 seconds at 132 and Brown at 1:15 at 106.

Warren County and Owensboro Catholic are both first-year wrestling programs.

Caldwell’s wrestlers are now off until the regional tournament on Saturday, March 13, at Union County.
