After starting the season with two wins, including a victory over defending 5th-District champions Trigg County, the Todd County Central girls’ basketball dropped its second-straight with a 60-49 setback to Monroe County on Monday in the opening game of the 4th-Region All “A” tournament.

Gracie Veach and Paisley Ford combined for 14 first-quarter points, outscoring the Lady Rebels on their own, and the Lady Falcons led 19-11 after one.

Todd Central struggled to score points in the second quarter, with Jamaia Coleman scoring 5 of the 7, and Monroe County pushed the lead out to 31-18 at the halftime break.  Ella Massingille put up 9 points in the frame for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Rebels began to claw their way back into the game behind 10 third-quarter points from Lucy Chester and trimmed the deficit to 9 with a quarter to play.

However, Veach scored 7 of her game-high 17 in the fourth quarter, along with a combined 8 for Ford and Malila Myatt, and the Lady Falcons held on despite 6 points from Todd Central’s Alexis Taylor and 4 for Abby Williams.

Chester was named to the 4th-Region All “A” Tournament team, while Jayla Leavell represented the Lady Rebels on the All “A” Academic Team.

Todd Central will be on the road to open 13th-District play at Russellville on Friday.  The Lady Rebels dropped both meetings with the Lady Panthers last season.
