Jasmine Ward is an athlete in every form of the word. The Fort Campbell senior is an all-district performer on the soccer field for the Lady Falcons and has taken that athleticism to the wrestling mat.

She is a member of the first girls’ wrestling team at Fort Campbell that recently finished second at the state wrestling tournament. Ward became the school’s first individual state champion in 29 years when she won the 126-pound class. She pinned all three of her opponents, including East Jessamine’s Makayla Gilbert in the championship match.

Fort Campbell’s last individual state champion was Jovanie Marshall in the 1990 boys’ state tournament in the 145-pound class.

With the girls’ state tournament behind her, Ward now has her sights set on qualifying for the boys’ state tournament this weekend at McCracken County. She is the No. 6 seed in the 126-pound class and needs to finish in the top four in order to advance to the state tournament.

Jasmine talked about her start in wrestling and her goals for the year right before she won the girls’ state title.
