The Hopkinsville softball team surrendered 11 first-inning runs on the way to a 19-2, five-inning loss to visiting Russellville on Monday night. The Lady Tigers slip to their seventh-straight loss to drop to 6-21 overall, while the Lady Panthers improve to 18-15 on the year.
Eight first-inning walks pushed the Lady Panthers to an 11-0 lead. Hoptown scored a run in each of the first and third at-bats on an RBI single by Taiya Straight and an inside the park home run from Shaniya Straight, but trailed 17-2 after four frames. Russellville added 2 more in the top of the fifth for the final score.
Morgan Hodge took the loss, giving up 11 runs, 8 earned. Hodge only allowed three hits, but was undone by eight walks. Marley Hancock went 4.1 innings in relief, yielding 9 runs, 8 earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts and seven walks.
Addie Mosier earned the win for Russellville, working 3.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Brooklyn Ray led the Lady Panther attack with three hits and 6 RBI.
The Lady Tigers will be back on their home field on Tuesday to face the 8-11 Todd County Central Lady Rebels.
