Todd County Central couldn’t capitalize on a pair of home runs from Samantha Case and Abigail McPherson on Monday night, dropping a high school softball game 10-3 to host Jo Byrns in Cedar Hill, Tennessee.

Case and McPherson launched the Rebels’ first long balls of the season and accounted for all 10 of Todd’s total bases, but the visitors committed four errors and couldn’t keep the Red Devils off the base pads.

After the teams traded three-up, three-down frames to start the contest, TCCHS actually took the first lead when McPherson was hit by a pitch and later scored on a dropped third strike and a two-out error by Jo Byrns.

That advantage wouldn’t last long, though, as Kalie Morrison led off the bottom of the second inning with a double, then scored three batters late on a two-out RBI hit by MacKenzie Cobb. The host Red Devils took the lead for good later in the second when Kelcie Sloan scampered home on a wild pitch.

JBHS (4-5) stepped on the gas in the third inning, using a pair of triples to seize complete control. The Devils went on to post five runs and take a 7-1 lead midway through the contest.

The homers by McPherson and Case were solo shots that respectively led off the fourth and sixth innings, but they ended up being for naught in defeat. The duo combined to go 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs. The rest of the Rebels went 0-for-16; Abby Williams was the only other Todd Central player to reach base, drawing a HBP in the second inning.

Haylee Vass (1-2) lasted four innings and gave up eights and eights runs. She had no walks or strikeouts and eventually gave way to Maddie Williams, who allowed four hits and two runs during two innings out of the pen. Cobb was the winning pitcher for Jo Byrns, throwing all seven innings, striking out five, walking none, and scattering the aforementioned four hits.

Of their 12 hits, four went for extra bases for the Red Devils. Leadoff hitter Korey Harris went 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, and an RBI. Grayson Bryant (2-for-4) added a pair of triples, two runs, and an RBI.

The Rebels (4-2) remain on the road next with an April 13 trip to Logan County, which has dropped five straight games.
