Former Caldwell County standout Derrin Boyd led Georgetown with 22 points, including two free throws with less than a minute to play to help the Tigers hold off visiting Bethel 85-80 Saturday afternoon.

In just his fourth college game and only his second start, Boyd was 7 of 13 from the field and made 4-of-9 3-pointers as Georgetown improved to 3-1 on the season.

Boyd made all four of his free throw attempts in the contest while adding two rebounds and one assist.

Bethel traveled to Davis-Reid Alumni Gym to battle Georgetown for the first time after joining the Mid-South Conference as a full member.

Trailing in the second half, Georgetown finished on a 34-23 run in the final 15 minutes — including a 22-10 spurt in the final 9 minutes.

Boyd had the hot hand, totaling his career- and game-high 22 points. Kyran Jones chipped in with 17 points and a new career-high 16 rebounds. Jake Ohmer had 19 points and Jaquay Wales had 13 with five assists.

Boyd is now averaging 12.3 points a game for the Tigers.

Chandler Clements led the Wildcats with 20 points, while Jamarius Mayberry had 18 and Kamron Rose 15.

Georgetown is back in action at 6 p.m. Central time on Wednesday, hosting Indiana University Southeast.
