Trigg County freshman and leading scorer Lania Hite scored a second-half hat trick on Saturday to help the Lady Wildcats pull away from hosts Todd County Central 5-0.

The two teams are tied together in several ways, with former Trigg girls’ coach Matt Harper now at the helm for the Lady Rebels, along with current Todd County athletic director and boys’ soccer coach Mike Smith also having prowled the sidelines for the Lady Wildcats twelve years ago before becoming the boys’ coach at UHA.

Playing without leading scorer Madison Henderson, the Lady Rebels found themselves pinned in their defensive third of the field from the first whistle.  However, the Todd Central defense performed admirably, yielding only a single goal over the first forty minutes.  That goal, a stunning 35-yard free-kick by Olivia Noffsinger, provided the Lady Wildcats with a narrow 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Trigg wasted no time doubling the advantage in the second half, with Hite scoring off an assist from Briley Mitchell with less than a minute played.  Hite’s next two goals were solo efforts, stretching the margin to four before Lady Rebel goalkeeper Sam Case mishandled Alyssa Southwood’s shot for the final goal of the match.

Trigg County will be back in action on Monday when they get a visit from Mayfield.  The Lady Rebels will also face Mayfield in their next match when they go on the road to face the Lady Cardinals on Tuesday.
