After a recent six-game losing skid, Lyon County American Legion Post 68 is back on the winning side after routing Bowling Green 17-7 Thursday night at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.

Former Caldwell County standout Cody Holub was 5-for-6 at the plate with a pair of doubles, a stolen base and five runs batted in for the Post 68 Aces.

Holub singled and scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning and Lyon County never trailed while improving to 7-8 this summer.

Collin Price drilled a two-run homer to left field in the third inning to make it 3-0.

Holub singled home two more runs in the fourth while Gabe Salazar knocked in a run with a single and Price doubled in a run to put Post 68 up 7-1.

A five-run fifth extended the margin to 12-1. Josh Wilson had a two-run single to right, Tate Quertermous drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Salazar delivered a two-run single in that inning.

Bowling Green tried to make things interesting in the top of the sixth by scoring six times. That cut the margin to 12-7.

But Price had an RBI double in the seventh as Lyon went up 14-7.

Post 68 ended the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Holub singled home two more runs. Price ended the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 17-7 and reach the 10-run mercy rule.

Aidan Rush was the winning pitcher, tossing the first six innings for Post 68. He allowed just one run through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Price pitched the final two innings.

The Lyon County American Legion team is scheduled to play Friday at Jackson, Mo.
