UHA Advances to 8th District Final With Program Record 27th Win

The University Heights Academy Blazers are back in the 8th District volleyball championship game. The Lady Blazers advanced with their program record 27th win of the season, rolling by Fort Campbell in straight sets Tuesday evening at Hopkinsville High School.

UHA jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening set of the match. The lead would grow to as many as 11 at 21-10. The Lady Blazers would then cruise on out to take the set 25-15. UHA’s serves led the attack in the set, as the Lady Blazers finished with six aces in the set. Beth Peebles and Meghan Adams each had two aces to pace the attack.

The second set was more of the same. UHA jumped out to the early 6-1 lead. With the lead at 10-5, UHA scored the next five points to go up 15-5, and then finished strong to take the set 25-9 and go up 2-0 in the match. Meghan Adams and Katie Beth Stevens had a big set at the net, with Adams getting six kills while Stevens added four. Beth Peebles had a huge set setting up her teammates at the net.

After Fort Campbell scored the opening point of the 3rd set, UHA roared back, scoring 12 in a row to take a 12-1 lead. The Lady Blazers then rolled on to complete the sweep with a 25-8 win in the set. Adams and Stevens were again big up front, combining for nine kills in the set. Beth Peebles and Sarah Peebles combined for seven assists in setting up their teammates.

For the match, Meghan Adams had 12 kills, 2 aces, 9 digs, 2 blocks, and 2 assists. Katie Beth Stevens finished with 9 kills, and 4 blocks. Beth Peebles ended the night with 1 kill, 4 aces, 6 digs, and 24 assists.

Jasmine Jones led the Fort Campbell effort, finishing with four kills in the match.

With the win, UHA improves to 27-5 on the season. The 27 wins is a new school record, surpassing the 26 wins of the of the 2016 team, which finished 26-11, losing to Caldwell County in the regional semifinals.

Fort Campbell finishes the season at 5-20.
