For the second straight year, Elizabethtown used big plays to beat Trigg County and end the Wildcats’ football season in the first round of the Class 3A football playoffs. Clay Games threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns to send E-town past Trigg 61-33. The Wildcats’ season ends with a record of 5-6 for the second straight year.

The E-town sophomore quarterback threw for three touchdowns in the first half as the Panthers led 12-0 after one quarter and 33-13 at halftime.

Joseph Becherer ran for 130 yards and scored on a touchdown run of 60 yards and a pass play covering 45 yards. He also had a punt return called back due to a penalty. Trayjan Bradley added 90 yards and a score.

Trigg County was outgained 313-148 in first half yardage but found some footing in the second half. Quarterback Cam Jordan ran for 129 yards on 20 carries and scored on runs of 7, 7, and 54 yards. He was also 14-of-22 passing for 135 yards and a score.

Jakobe Bridges had seven receptions for 100 yards and a 48-yard touchdown reception.

The game ended on an odd note when Elizabethtown, leading 61-27 with 15 seconds left, opted to punt the football away. The punt hit at the 35 and bounced to the 40 as time expired. Hearing no whistle blowing the play dead, Riley Stallons picked up the football and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. The officials huddled and awarded Trigg the score and the unusual statistical oddity of the losing team scoring a punt return for a score on the game’s final play.

Elizabethtown (7-4), the three-time defending Class 3A Region 1 champion, beat Trigg County 47-6 in the first round last year. They will host Paducah Tilghman in the second round for a fourth straight year next Friday.
