Hopkinsville clinched the No. 2 seed in the Eighth District Girls’ Soccer Tournament Thursday with a 2-0 win over Christian County at the Stadium of Champions. The teams will meet again in the first round of the tournament next month at Fort Campbell.

Grasen Givens gave Hopkinsville a quick 1-0 lead of an Ana Hernandez pass just three minutes into the match. Hernandez would score for Hoptown just two minutes into the second half off a Sarah Johnston assist for the final goal.

Christian County goalie Payton Hale and her Hoptown counterpart Vy Nguyen shined in goal for both teams, but it was the Lady Tigers who get their first three-game winning streak of the season and second shutout in their last three games.

Hopkinsville evened their season record at 6-6 with the win and finish their district slate with a 2-1 mark. They will play twice Saturday in the Colonels Showcase against Warren Central and Logan County.

Christian County dropped to 7-6 with the loss and 1-2 in the Eighth District. The Lady Colonels will be the No. 3 seed in the district tourney. Christian County will play Hopkins County Central and Warren Central Saturday in the Colonels Showcase at the Stadium of Champions.
