The combination of a forty minute weather delay and the Henderson County defense was a bit too much for the Christian County Colonels Friday night. The nothern Colonels clamped down on the Christian County offense and cruised to a 28-7 win at the Stadium of Champions.

Thanks to a big defensive stand, Henderson County got on the board first Friday night. Isaiah Easley ran it in from 15 yards out to put Henderson up 7-0 with 4:07 to go in the opening quarter. Neither team got much done after that in the quarter, and that was how the first quarter ended.

The Henderson defense decided to get involved in the scoring fun next. A 15-yard interception return by Kendall Hilton halfway through the second quarter pushed the lead out to 14-0.

It was right after that score that Mother Nature decided she wanted to play too. Lightning in the area of the stadium prompted a weather delay that held up the game for approximately 40 minutes.

After the delay, Henderson County threatened to add to their lead before halftime, but turned the ball over, and the Colonels from the north had to settle for the 14-0 lead at the break.

The Henderson County defense struck again in the 3rd quarter. This time it was a 38-yard interception return for Edmund Brooks, as Henderson pulled on out to a 21-0 lead.

Christian County’s lone score of the game also came on the defensive side. LaRay Coleman picked up a Henderson County fumble and returned it 80 yards to the house to cut the lead to 21-7 with just over 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Henderson County sealed the win early in the 4th quarter, as Logan Green ripped off a nine yard touchdown run. That made the score 28-7 and effectively secured the win for Henderson County.

Turnovers were a big issue for Christian County, as they coughed the ball up four times on the night, with two of those being returned for touchdowns.

Henderson County, who picked up their first win over Christian County since 2014, leads the all-time series with the southern Colonels 29-17.

Christian County’s second straight loss drops them to 1-2 on the season, while Henderson improves to 2-1.
