The red-hot Hoptown Hoppers traveled to Madisonville Monday night for a matchup with the Miners. Their game on Saturday was rescheduled due to weather and was played Monday night at Elmer Kelley Stadium.
Hoptown couldn’t keep their four-game winning streak alive as they fell to Madisonville, 12-2.
It was a pitchers duel for the first three innings, as each team had just one hit a piece. However, Madisonville put together a 4-run fourth to take the lead.
The Hoppers answered in the fifth, putting two runs of their own on the board. The Miners came right back, though, besting Hoptown to score three in the inning.
Leading 7-2, Madisonville not only shut out Hoptown the rest of the way but managed to score two in the seventh and three more in the eighth to route the Hoppers.
Despite fanning eight, starting pitcher Ethan Clark took the loss by giving up five hits and seven runs in just four and a third innings.
Colin Casey earned the win for Madisonville, striking out 10 and giving up just two runs.
The final score may have been lopsided, but the Hoppers only had two fewer hits than the Miners and even committed one less error.
Ryan Traylor found success at the plate, going 3-5 for a single, two doubles and a run. Blake Jackson and Joe DeFina each went 2-4 for two singles a piece. Matt Keane had the team’s lone RBI.
Hoptown (8-2) will return to action on their home field Tuesday night as they host the Dubois County Bombers (3-7).
First pitch is set for 7 P.M.
