One night after beating Madisonville for the first time in six years, the Christian County Lady Colonels flirted with the possibility of losing to Trigg County for the first time ever.

The Lady Colonels saw a five-run lead evaporate in the seventh inning before scoring three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Lady Wildcats 9-6 in the first-ever meeting in fast-pitch softball between the schools.

Trigg County’s Hannah Colbert and Christian County’s Regan Hancock engaged in a pitcher’s duel for the first part of the game. Colbert’s only hiccup early came in the third inning when Lexie O’Daniel tripled in two runs and scored on a Tyler Shemwell double. She struck out four in the first five innings.

Hancock allowed just one run – an Autumn Durham homerun – in the fifth inning.

Christian County tacked on three runs thought to be insurance runs in the seventh inning. O’Daniel had an RBI single, and Tyler Shemwell and Hope Jones both doubled to give the Lady Colonels a 6-1 lead.

Trigg mounted their rally in the seventh inning when Adri Phillips and Abby Terrell scored, and Maggie Snodgrass was hit by a pitch. Phelan Dossett tripled home all three runs with shot down the first base line.

Durham reached on an error, was sacrificed to second and scored on a Colbert single to tie the game at 6-6. Lexie O’Daniel entered the game to pitch for the Lady Colonels and retired the next two batters.

Christian County scored three times in the eighth inning on a Pickle Winkler RBI single and two-run homer by O’Daniel, who finished a double shy of the cycle and drove in five runs.

Winkler, Tyler Shemwell, and Halle Hendricks each had two hits for the Lady Colonels.

Phillips had three hits for Trigg County in addition to Durham’s first home run of the season.

Colbert allowed 12 hits and struck out 10 while walking five for the Lady Wildcats.

O’Daniel retired five of the six batters she faced to get the win for No. 3 Christian County (22-3), who is scheduled to play North Oldham and No. 16 Daviess County Saturday in Owensboro.

Trigg County (15-10) will host Livingston Central Saturday morning at 10am.
