The Caldwell County Tigers dropped their second hard fought battle in three days Saturday, falling on the road at Calloway County 58-52. The Lakers inched out, quarter by quarter, to end up with the six point win.

The game was tight throughout, with the Lakers taking the early lead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. Jameer Riley got off to a good start on the day for the Tigers scoring half of the team’s first quarter points.

Both teams played solid defense in the second quarter. Calloway County, for the second quarter in a row, outscored the Tigers by one point to take a 27-25 halftime lead.

Coming out of the locker room, defenses took over the contest, as neither team could score in double digits. The Lakers managed to outscore the Tigers 8-6 to extend their lead just a little more to 35-31.

Caldwell County picked up the offensive pace in the final quarter trying to overtake the Lakers. The Tigers connected on three 3-pointers down the stretch. However, Calloway County spent a great deal of time at the line in the 4th quarter, connecting on 12 of 18 free throws in the final quarter to seal the 58-52 win.

The Tigers were led by Jameer Riley with 18 points, including 12 on four 3-point shots. Derrin Boyd, who came into the game average more than 20 points a contest, was held to 11 points. Cayden Fraliex also added 11. Calloway County was paced by Jeremy Darnell with 16.

The Tigers drop to 2-4, while the Lakers improve to 5-2.
