Monroe County took advantage of early Trigg County miscues to notch a 37-19 win over the Wildcats in the Scottie Bowl at Glasgow High School Friday. The mistakes allowed Monroe County quarterback Ty Mink to show off his playmaking skills and cause problems for the Wildcat defense. Mink threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 90 more and three scores.
Trigg quarterback Cam Jordan was tackled in the end zone to give Monroe a safety in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Trigg’s Kirome Bingham recovered a Monroe fumble. One play later, Jordan found Kyron Grubbs open down the right sideline to give Trigg a 6-2 lead. However, Monroe scored the next 35 points in the game. Twice, Falcon scores came after Trigg County 15-yard penalties kept drives alive. A third touchdown was scored after a Trigg fumble, the lone Wildcat turnover of the night.
Trigg County scored a third quarter touchdown on a 22-yard pass from Jordan to Gabe Hardie and a fourth quarter score on a Jordan to Bridges scoring strike.
Jordan finished 15-of-23 for 135 yards and three TDs in his first varsity start. He also led the Wildcats in rushing with 21 yards.
Monroe County, who improved to 4-0 all-time against the Wildcats, outgained Trigg County 342-172 and had 27 first downs to 10 for Trigg.
The Wildcats return to action Friday when they host McLean County at Perdue Field.
